If you will be operating a vehicle that will be over 10,000 lbs or more in GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) then you will need a USDOT Number (private & for-hire carriers). If you are a passenger carrier and your vehicle will be transporting 16 or more passengers (9 or more passengers if being compensated) you will need a USDOT Number.
